During World War II, Japan invaded the Philippines in 1360 AH/1941 AD), and expelled the American forces from there. Guerrilla warfare took place and small militant groups were formed to engage in this guerrilla war.

General MacArthur returned to the Philippines in 1363 AH/1944 AD and fought the Japanese with the aid of Filipino revolutionaries. They were able to expel the Japanese in 1364 AH/1945 AD. Japan was defeated in World War II. Muslim Filipinos fought the Japanese fiercely and participated in all stages of the Philippine struggle for Independence.

The Philippines obtained its independence in 1365 AH/1946 AD and the form of government became presidential, similar to that in the United States. The House of Representatives consisted of 102 members who were elected in provincial elections. The House of Representatives included only two Muslims, and thus, they were granted merely one fifth of their due representation right. They should have eleven members according to their percentage.
