The seventh means: to spread the spirit of hope among the army and the Ummah
In no way could a frustrated Ummah achieve victory. Frustration, despair and hopelessness are not characteristics of the faithful believers: {Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allaah except the disbelieving people.} [Quran 12:87]

Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, endeavored to raise the spirits of his army and Ummah, and clarified to them that the Victory of Allaah for the Ummah that follows the right path is certainly inevitable rather than likely probable, since it has creedal grounds.
{Allaah Has Written, "I Will surely Overcome, I and My messengers." Indeed, Allaah Is Powerful and Exalted in Might.} [Quran 58:21]
That is, O faithful believers, a settled case.
The eighth means: real consultation

Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, followed the guidance of consultation in all his steps. When consulting, he sought to reach the best opinion rather than to confirm the opinion of the leader. Consultation is one of the foundations of rule in Islam, and whoever does not act upon it sacrifices the energy of millions of his people, assumes himself to be perfect, behaves in opposition to the method of the Prophets and Messengers, May Allaah Exalt their mention, sows the seeds of hatred among his followers, makes one mistake after the other, and, above all, disobeys the Command of Allaah The Almighty, which was stated explicitly in His Noble Book (which means): {and consult them in the matter.} [Quran 3:159]
The ninth means: to appoint only qualified people

Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, appointed only those who had two main characteristics, in any office, be it significant or insignificant. Those are competence and trustworthiness: {Indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and the trustworthy.} [Quran 28:26]
Strong stands for the one who is competent in the area of his specialty, excels his fellows, has precedence over them, and is perfect and creative in his job.
Trustworthy stands for the one who wastes neither the Right of Allaah, nor the rights of His slaves, nor the rights of the Ummah, nor the right of his own self.
How much does the Ummah lose by appointing those who are unfit? Furthermore, that is one of the signs of the Hour.

It was narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, May Allaah Be Pleased with him, that a Bedouin asked the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam: "‘When would the Hour be?’ The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, ‘When the trust is wasted, then wait for the Hour.’ The Bedouin said, ‘How would that be wasted?’ The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said, ‘When the matter (of authority) is entrusted to those who are unfit for it, then wait for the Hour.’" [Al-Bukhaari]

If the offices are given to men who are neither competent, nor trustworthy, who attain their positions only by means of mediation, kinship or bribery, then, it should be known that victory is far away.

In this story, we have seen how Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, appointed Faaris Ad-Deen Aqtaay as the army leader, although he belonged to the Bahri Mamluks; Rukn Ad-Deen Baybars the leader of his army forefront in the Battle of ‘Ayn Jaaloot, although he was his main contender, and the leader of the Bahri Mamluks, and a man of power and long history; and the emirs of Shaam as governors of their emirates, rather than his companions and relatives; and whoever is in such state should be helped (by Allaah), for whoever safeguards the trust should be safeguarded by Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds.
"Keep (the Commandments of) Allaah, so that He would keep you." That is one of the well-established rules of victory.
The tenth means: abstinence from this World

The illusory leaders at the time of Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, or in these days of ours as well as at any time until the Day of Judgment, fail only because they are drowned in this World, and dipped into its pleasures. They wrong their peoples and ally with their enemies only because they seek material benefits, and the delights of this World.

For this reason, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, always warned of (the Fitnah of) this World. It was narrated on the authority of Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri, May Allaah Be Pleased with him, that he said: “Once, the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, sat on the pulpit and we sat around him. Then he said, ‘Among the things I fear for you after I die is the pleasures and splendors of the world, and its beauties which will be granted to you in abundance." [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]

That is not the only occasion on which the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, warned us about this World. He warned us many times, in many formulas, and on many occasions. This goes back to its severe danger for the Muslims, and even for the faithful believers.
