It seems that there were three superpowers on earth at the beginning of the 7th century A.H.:

1- The superpower of the Islamic Ummah: it has a great history and famous glory. But at that time, it was subject to a state of weakness. Regardless of its severity, it did not entirely eliminate respect for the Ummah since its enemies knew well that the means of victory and the factors of power were implanted within this Ummah, and they only needed someone to bring them out and develop them.

2- The superpower of the Crusaders: regardless of their severe weakness and civilizational and scientific backwardness in comparison to the Islamic Ummah, they were a considerable force, in view of their huge number, bitter resentment and insistence on fighting the Muslims to the end. Allaah, the Almighty tells the truth when He says about them (what means): {And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able.} [Quran 2:217] Both superpowers from the Muslims and Crusaders formed the power of the ancient world at that time.

3- The superpower of the Tatars: it was an odious savage group, with neither history nor civilization: but it appeared suddenly, without possessing any culture, civilization or religion to enable it to excel others. This is why it was necessary for it to depend on its savage force and barbarous war to gain dominance over the people surrounding it. At that time, the superpower of the Tatars formed the new world.
It is out of the established norm of Allaah, the Almighty on earth that conflict should break out between different forces; that the various factions be checked by each other's means; that the strong who lack religion always reject the weak to live with them; that falsehood, no matter how different in form, should necessarily gather together to fight the truth; and that the war between the truth and falsehood should inevitably continue until the Day of Judgment.

Putting all this in mind, cooperation between the Tatars and the Crusaders was expected in their fight against the Muslims, regardless of their difference in orientations, policies and theories. This is exactly what took place.
The Crusaders sent a high-ranking delegate from Europe to Mongolia on a journey more than 12,000 kilometers, to motivate them to invade Muslim countries, sack the Abbasid Caliphate, and invade Baghdad, the duly pearl of the Islamic world, making much of the Islamic caliphate in their sight, promising to help them and be spies for them in the Muslim countries. In this way, the Tatars were completely induced to invade the Muslims.

What the Crusaders expected took place. The mouths of the Tatars watered in anticipation of the possession of the Abbasid Caliphate, and they decided to invade those vast territories of huge resources and great wealth, given the difference between the Tatars and Crusaders in many things, to the extent they were engaged in wars in many parts of the world. But when they were to face the Islamic Ummah, they gathered together to fight Islam and the Muslims. This is not strange; on the contrary, it is a customary way followed by the men of falsehood in their war against the Muslims. In the past, the Jews cooperated with the polytheists in their war against the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, giving no attention to the great creed-related difference between both parties.

Moreover, the Persians cooperated with the Romans in their war against the Muslims, regardless of the mutual severe aversion, old retaliations, continuous disputes and long wars between both empires. Similarly, the English people cooperated with the Jews to overthrow the Ottoman Caliphate, occupy Palestine and fix Israel inside that blessed land, giving no attention to the severe enmity between both the Jews and Christians. Now, the Russians are cooperating with the Americans to destroy what they call Islamic terrorism. In this respect, Russia has no objection to the Americans in their wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine, and, in return, America has no objection to Russia in its war in Chechnya, and the Muslims are the victims in both cases.

In sum, the men of falsehood are always united in their wars against the Muslims. For this reason, it is not fitting for the Muslims to deal with others from the perspective that 'My enemy's enemy is my friend'. The Muslims should know well their real enemies, and learn that their enemy's enemy may also be their enemy.

Of course, there may be alliances between Muslims and some of their enemies for a specific term and special purpose, but on the condition that this should lead to no negligence of religion, nor negligence of rights, but should rather be done with caution and for a specific term, far from allegiance and friendship, with which rights are forgotten. This is mentioned clearly by Allaah, The Almighty in His Noble Book by Saying (what means): {And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion.} [Quran 2:120]

The point is that the Tatars began to think seriously about invading the Muslim countries, and laid plans to sack the Abbasid Caliphate and enter Baghdad, the capital of the Islamic caliphate.
