Muslim students at the University of Evansville in Indiana have distributed flowers among their fellow colleagues in an effort to promote peace among followers of different religions and spread information about their faith and culture.
"We're trying to share the language of peace and love between different religions and different people,” student Mustafa Alhajji told Tristatehomepage website.
The flowers were accompanied by cards carrying notes with quotations from the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him)
There were 8 different quotations among the cards handed out to classmates and others on Friday.
"We chose some quotations from the prophet Muhammad, the Islam Prophet, the Islam leader, who taught us to be in good manner and filled us with more than any others," Alhajji said.
"So, we are sharing that human quotation about love and peace."
Organizers say the idea began in Chicago several years ago.
Yet, this is the first time students have delivered the flowers at their university in the southern American state of Indiana.
The muslim initiative won plaudits from university officials as a wonderful example of diversity in both culture and religion among their students.
Though there are no official estimates, the US is home to an estimated Muslim minority of six to eight million.
A recent US survey had revealed that the majority of Americans know very little about Muslims and their faith.
