Muslim Youth and the absence of righteous example
Muslim youth encounter a serious danger that is the lack to the righteous example. Guiding through example is more influential thousand times than by lectures and orations. It is said: "An act of one man in one thousand people is more influential than a word of one thousand in one man".
The example whose actions contradict his words is mistaken if he thought he is an ideal even if his words act as example (Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.), As-Saf, 3.
For example, how it comes for a father to order his sons not to smoke while he is a smoker?! Or how it comes for him to order them to approach their neighbors while he is in constant quarrel with them?! How it comes for a teacher in the school to urge his students to mercy while he consumes their money through private lessons giving no interest in exerting his best in teaching in classroom?!
How it comes to a ruler or policeman to incite youth to avoid violence and terrorism while he acts vigorously towards people?!
How it comes to call for good model without starting practical example on our part?!
In most cases, Muslim youth is lacking to the righteous model.
Who is the alternative of example to youth today?!
Let every one examines his own model or that of his sons or brothers.
Who is the example?
Some Muslim youth take an example in a feminine impudent actor, others take it in a football player who may be non-Muslim and thus aspires to become like him as a goal for his life or even to have his autograph!!
Some Muslim youth seek their model in vicious millionaire stole wealth of home and nationals or an opportunist briber official who occupied senior position he is not qualified for it.
Some Muslim youth seek their example in Marxist leader, infidel leader or impudent writer.
Others seek their example from communists, Christians, Jews, Hindus or of no religion at all!!
Not may of Muslim seek as his example the prophet Muhammad (PBUH), though Allah, Almighty, says: (There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.), Al-Ahzab, 21.
Let every body refer to his Muslim acquaintances and ask them plainly: who is your example?
You may enter to the campus and seek a random sample and ask some of the student this plain question: who is your example?
I hope if we make this statistics to know who among our youth seek his example in the prophet (PBUH), Az-Zubair, Talha, Sa`d, or Al-Arqam in comparison to those seeking their example in artists, football players, writers?
This is indeed a serious statistics which will disclose the truth.
It is difficult to ask a lad walking with a girl and responses to you saying: I seek my example in the prophet Muhammad. It is difficult to find the same answer from a smoker.
Lets all parents examine the example of their sons and daughters!
I do not seek an excuse the youth from responsibility as our example the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is not beyond our reach. Allah, Almighty, preserved his Sunnah and made available for us Dua` (callers to Allah) conveying his Sunnah to us.
Frequently, they are hindered from conveying the message of Islam; however, finally they still do in every country, city, street, mosque, university club or at work.
In every place, Dua` are present, but the most important is the desire of the youth to listen to them.
You will never be unable to know about your example, the prophet Muhammad.
You will never be unable to know about your example from the righteous companions or their followers.
Cassettes, books and internet are full of their biography. If learning circles became few, scholars are still reachable. The drop is the first step from rain, and then it falls heavily.
Of the essence is to start seeking a righteous example for you who are too many in the history of Islam.
Also, there are righteous examples living among us who combined both the apparent aspect of Islam and the practical one in each track, however, they are many by the grace of Allah in all Muslim lands in every field of knowledge, Shari`ah, Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, Astronomy, Agriculture and others, in young and aged, men and women, educated and uneducated.
The righteous examples who cling very much to the teachings of Islam will never be lost from the Muslim nation, as the good is in this nation to the end of time. Thus, the youth have to seek the righteous example in the right places and in the right way.
Appearance, position, social status, economic state, fame are not a condition for the righteous example, righteousness, morals, work and seriousness are the most important features distinguishing them.
The issue of the righteous example is not by-issue for the youth; rather, it is main and pivotal. All examples we previously mentioned from the generation of the companions or those who followed them righteously were seeking the prophet in all his actions and words as their example throughout their lives plainl. Moreover, every one of them had a close example inside his home helped him advancement. For example, Usama ibn Zayed was brought up by Zayd ibn Haritha, may Allah be pleased with them all, and Zayd ibn Thabit was brought up by the righteous female companion An-Nawar bint Malik and Mu`az ibn `Amr ibn Al-Jamuh was brought up `Amr ibn Al-jamuh, may Allah be pleased with them all.
In this manner, these examples were brought up in a good environment, thus they presented to mankind the great remarkable deeds.
O Muslim youth, do not imitate any example blindly as it does not define your course in this life only, but it does for the after world.
I beseech to Allah to guide all of us, Amen.
