A new survey has found that the majority of US Muslims will cast ballot for President Barack Obama in the November election, while a quarter of voters are still undecided to whom they will vote.

"These results indicate that a large percentage of American Muslim voters are still open to appeals from presidential candidates and that American Muslims are potentially in a position to decide this year's election," Nihad Awad, National Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said in a press release obtained by OnIslam.net.

The poll, conducted by an independent research firm on behalf of CAIR, showed that nearly 91% of registered Muslim voters will take part in the election on November 6.

The survey found that 68% of respondents said they would cast ballot for Obama in the election.

Around 7% of respondents said they will vote for Romney.

The poll also found that 25% of registered Muslim voters are still undecided to whom they would vote.

Opinion polls show a deadlocked race between Obama and Romney.

A Reuters/Ipsos online tracking poll gave Romney a 1-point edge on Wednesday, 47 percent to Obama's 46 percent.

In swing states that will decide which candidate gains the 270 electoral votes needed to win, Romney has narrowed the gap on Obama or moved slightly ahead.

But in Ohio, a vital part of most victory scenarios for either candidate, a Time magazine poll showed Obama with a 5-point edge on Romney.

Though there are no official figures, the United States is believed to be home to nearly six to eight million Muslims.

Although the Muslim population in the US may be small, the voting power of this group could become significant in a close election as a significant number of US Muslims live in key swing states such as Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Virginia.

Jobs, Economy

The survey also showed that American Muslims pay attention to domestic issues as jobs and the economy.

It found the most important issues for Muslim voters are jobs and the economy, education, health care policy, Medicare and Social Security, and civil rights.

The poll also found the support for the Democratic Party among Muslim voters grew from 49% in 2008 to 66%.

Support for the Republican Party only rose by 1% from 8% in 2008 to 9%, it showed.

The survey also found that half of respondents (%49) opine that the Democratic Party was friendly towards Muslims, while 6% disagree.

Only 12% believe the Republican Party was friendly towards Muslims, while 51% opine that the Republicans were unfriendly.

The poll also found that 35% of Muslim respondents say they have experienced religious or ethnic profiling or discrimination in the 9/11 era.

The same percentage say they experienced kind treatment by neighbors or co-workers in that period.

The poll also revealed that 68% of Muslim respondents should support the uprising against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.

Nearly 76% also believe that the US and NATO made the right decision by intervening in the Libyan revolution.
