In this story, we have seen how those who were attached to this World lived their lives, ambitions and dreams; how they sold their own selves, peoples and morals, and even belief, just for the sake of small worldly transitory benefits; and how they lived and died in humiliation and willing submission. We have seen Muhammad ibn Khuwaarizm, Jalaal Ad-Deen ibn Khuwaarizm, An-Naasir Li Deen Allaah, the Abbasid Caliph, Al-Musta‘sim Billaah, Badr Ad-Deen Lu’lu’, An-Naasir Yoosuf Al-Ayyoobi and others.

Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, on the contrary, sensed this disease that afflicted those weak leaders; thereupon he abstained from this World, and avoided its pleasures. He learnt that the enjoyment of this World, no matter how abundant it might seem, is very little (compared with the Hereafter), and that its blessing, no matter how brilliant it might be, is false and perishable. For this reason, he was not tempted by this World even for a single moment, nor did he covet of it even as little as an iota. He was eager to sell his World entirely in return for Paradise. He left all the funds which were at his disposal, and further sold all his possessions, to prepare, thereby, the Muslim armies to fight the Tatars.

He also did not covet the throne of authority. He offered it to An-Naasir Yoosuf, in spite of his insignificance, in case he accepted the unity between Egypt and Shaam. He also did not covet any familial stability or high social condition, security and safety; on the contrary, he devoted his life entirely to Jihaad and struggle, given its severe difficulty and danger. He did not covet an extended long life; on the contrary, he set out, by himself, leading his army to take part in fighting the Tatars, given his certain knowledge that he would be the first wanted by the

Tatars to be killed, and that if he did not set out by himself, and rather deputized anyone to lead the army on his behalf, he would be blameless, since he was required to save his life as a king, for the benefit of the Ummah. But he had true longing for Jihaad in the Cause of Allaah, and hoped for death under the clash of swords and spearheads, and abstained from this World, without hesitation or terror.

His life was a practical application of his words. For this reason, Allaah the Almighty Gave him the World from which he fled, and the Throne from which he abstained, and provided him with huge booty and abundant wealth which he never expected.
As such Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, lived with honor with his head raised high, supporting the Religion of Allaah, cherished by his people, and feared by his enemies.

Qutuz, May Allaah Have mercy upon him, comprehended well that one's sustenance is predestined for him before his birth, and that his share of wealth, authority and rule, will, inevitably, come to him in willing submission. So, he never humiliated himself. He always depended on Allaah the Almighty, in Whose Hand is sustenance and command. He was moderate in demand, and did not submit to any human being no matter how powerful he was, nor felt afraid of any army, no matter how equipped and great in number it was.

He comprehended well the statement of the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, narrated on the authority of Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah, May Allaah Be Pleased with them, in which he said: “O people! Fear Allaah and be moderate in pursuit (of your livelihood); no doubt, no soul will die until it receives the sustenance predestined for it to the full, even if it delays to come to it. So, fear Allaah, and be moderate in pursuit (of your livelihood); take only what is lawful, and leave what is unlawful.” [Ibn Maajah]

May Allaah the Almighty Have mercy upon this great person and outstanding leader, Qutuz, from whom we learnt and still learning, how the Muslim lives with the Quran, and how the words of the beloved Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mix with each particle of his entity.

We ask Allaah The Almighty to make good his Hereafter just as He made good his worldly life, to Support him in front of the people on the Day of the Greater presentation, just as He Supported him in ‘Ayn Jaaloot, and to Write down his name in the record of the truthful sincere Mujaahids as He Wrote down his name in the record of the immortal; He is the Guardian of that, and has power to Do it.
