The New Muslim's Guide - (9) The Pillars, Duties and Sunnahs of Prayerدليل المسلم الجديد - (9) أركان الصلاة وواجباتها وسننها
In the name of God, praise be to God, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and all his family and companions. The Sunnahs of prayer are many, including the verbal ones, and the actual ones. What is meant by the Sunnah: except for the pillars and duties. Some jurists have extended the verbal Sunan to seventeen years, and the actual Sunan to fifty-five years. Prayer is not invalidated by leaving any of the Sunnahs, even intentionally, other than the pillars and duties. The difference between a pillar and an obligation is that the pillar is not omitted intentionally or by mistake, but rather it must be done. As for the duty: it falls by forgetting, and it is forced by the prostration of forgetfulness. Perhaps it is appropriate here to mention the pillars of prayer and its obligations, then some of its Sunnahs, relying on what is in the text of (The Student’s Guide), which is a well-known abbreviation for Hanbali jurists: First: The pillars of prayer, which are fourteen Pillars, as follows: 1- One of them is standing In the imposition of the able. 2- The opening takbeer, which is God is the greatest. 3- Read Al-Fatihah. 4- Bowing, at least bending so that he can touch his knees with his palms, and complete it by extending his back flat and making his head facing him. 5- Lift it up. 6- Moderation is in place. 7- Prostration, and complete it by placing his forehead, nose, hands, knees and the tips of his toes from the place of his prostration, and at least placing part of each member. 8- Getting up from prostration. 9- Sitting between the two prostrations. How did he sit, and the Sunnah is for him to sit on his left leg, erect, and direct his right to the qiblah. 10- Tranquility, which is stillness in every actual corner. 11- The last tashahhud. 12- Sitting for him and for the two salutations. 13- The two taslims, which is to say twice: Peace be upon you and the mercy of God, and one salaam is sufficient for a nafl, as well as for a funeral. 14- Arranging the pillars as we mentioned. If he prostrates, for example, before bowing deliberately, it is invalidated, and inadvertently, he must return to bow and then prostrate. Second: The duties of prayer, which are eight, as follows: 1- Saying takbeer for non-ihram. 2- Saying: God listens to the one who praises Him for the Imam and for the one who is alone. 3- Saying: Our Lord, praise be to You. 4- Saying: Glory be to my Lord, the Great, once in bowing. 5- Saying: Glory be to my Lord, the Most High, once in prostration. 6- Saying: Lord, forgive me between the two prostrations. 7- The first tashahhud. 8- Sitting for the first tashahhud. Third: The Sunnahs of verbal prayer, which are eleven years old, are as follows: 1- His saying after the opening takbeer: “Glory be to you, O God, and praise be to you, and blessed is your name, and exalted is your grandfather, and there is no god but you.” It is called the opening prayer. 2- Seeking refuge. 3- Basmala. 4- Saying: Amen. 5- Read the surah after Al-Fatihah. 6- Reciting out loud to the imam. 7- Saying the one who is not praying after the tahmeed: filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever you want after (the correct thing is that it is a Sunnah for the one who is praying as well). 8- What is more than once in the glorification of bowing, i.e. the second and third glorification and more than that. 9- What is more than once in glorification of prostration. 10- What he said more than once between the two prostrations: Lord, forgive me. 11- Prayers in the last tashahhud for his family, peace be upon them, and blessings upon him and them, and supplications after him. Fourth: Sunnahs of verbs, which are called bodies: 1- Raising the hands with the takbeer of Ihram. 2- When bowing. 3- When lifting it. 4- Put them down after that. 5- Put the right over the left. 6- Looking at the place of his prostration. 7- Separate him standing between his feet. 8- He clenched his knees with his hands, fingers spread apart, in his bowing, and stretched his back into it, and made his head facing him. 9- Enabling the members of the prostration from the ground and directing them to the place of prostration except for the knees, which is disliked. 10- Separating his upper arms from his sides, his stomach from his thighs, and his thighs from his legs, separating his knees, straightening his feet, placing the bellies of their toes on the ground, separated, and placing his hands next to his shoulders, outstretched, fingers clenched. 11- Iftarsh is sitting between the two prostrations, and in the first tashahhud, and turkishness in the second. 12- Placing the hands on the thighs, outstretched, fingers intertwined between the two prostrations, and the same in the tashahhud except that he grasps the right pinky and ring finger and shaves her thumb with the middle and points with her forefinger when remembrance of God. 13- Turning to the right and left in salutation. In some of these matters, there is a difference of opinion among the jurists, for the obligatory action of one may be Sunnah according to the other, and this is explained in the books of jurisprudence. And God Almighty is higher and knows best, and we ask God Almighty of His grace and generosity, and praise be to God, Lord of the Worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our master Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and his family and all his companions.
